Wine tourism

The Porto wines and wines from the Douro valley are well-known. Douro is one of the oldest wine regions in the world and was added to the UNSECO’s world heritage list. Less known and a little closer to our location, you find the Dão region. The Dão wines have been quickly gaining popularity for the last couple of years. The wine houses of Quinta de Cabriz (in Carregal do Sal: 30 km) or Casa de Santar (Santar: 60 km) are definitely worth the visit. Both of them have a restaurant whit good food and wines to compliment the flavours in each dish. A little further towards Porto, you find the Bairrada region. There, you can visit a modern wine house called ‘Quinta do Encontro’, with a free guided tour. A tasting session costs €8.50 per person for four different wines. As a full-day excursion, this can be combined with a visit of Luso (spa), Parque National do Buçaco or the typical restaurants serving pit-roast in Mealhade. (see ‘excursions’)
