Accommodation

Authentic quinta

Roughly translated, Quinta da Tapada means “hidden country house”. The house is a traditional Portuguese villa that has had a complete renovation in 2006, when it was equipped with all comfort. The authentic nature of the accommodation has been preserved and continued in its tasteful decor. Every room is provided with central heating. The house was built on top of a rock and the walls are made out of schist, which is typical for the region. The thick walls (80 cm) keep the house cool in summer and warm in winter. The traditional roof tiles and the two terraces with beautiful views of the valley give this house its authentic nature.

First floor: entrance, bedrooms and bathroom

Via a small staircase and a terrace you enter through the front door on the first floor. The hallway gives access to a large bathroom and two bedrooms. The master bedroom is equipped with a double bed. The other bedroom has a double bed as well as a bunk bed, in total accommodating up to 6 persons. You sleep under thick beams and wooden ceilings. This together with the parquet floor creates a warm, cosy feeling. Both bed rooms give access to a large, wooden balcony with a wonderful view on the garden and the surroundings. What could be more delightful than to be woken by birdsong and with a bit of luck, you can even see a squirrel passing by while still in bed. The spacious bathroom is equipped with a bathtub with integrated shower, a toilet and a washbasin. For the very little ones, a travel cot, a cushion for changing nappies and a potty are available.

GROUND FLOOR: Living area and kitchen

A staircase in the hallway leads down to the ground floor, where you enter the living room. Apart from the 2 little storage spaces and the toilet, there is a fully equipped kitchen with a refrigerator, a freezer, a gas cooker, a cooking hood, a combination oven/microwave, a coffee maker, a kettle, a dishwasher and a washing machine. The living room has been furnished with great respect for the style of the house and its surroundings. There is a corner sofa, 2 wicker chairs, a dining table, a television and a music system. The corner sofa can be converted to a double bed. In the cupboards you will find a lot of information about the region and many walking maps. With the satellite TV, you can receive hundreds of TV channels, including many English-, French- and German-speaking channels. On top of that, there are also a couple of DVDs, comic books and party games available. During the winter or in mid-season, a built-in wood burner makes it cosy and warm. For the little children, a high chair and adapted dining utensils are also present.

terrain

Along a well paved and passable forest road (150m), you enter the terrain. Once arrived on the terrain, there is a paved road downwards (150m) leading to a parking space for about 3 cars. Around the house and the terraces, there are landscaped plant borders. There are several oak trees that provide shadow. The terrain of more than 11.000 m² has a steep slope with a forest of pine trees and ferns on one side. Down by the house is a large, flat terrain with grass, fruit trees and hazelnut trees. The domain is surrounded by a small river. Across the property, there is a terrain that is not habited with an orchard with large walnut trees. A bit further, on the other side of the valley, the neighbours have a little stable and a large vegetable garden. Under the hazelnut trees there is a large trampoline for the children. On the grass, you can play soccer, volleyball, badminton… as much as you want.
